Stephen happy new year to you and Gareth I also spent the night in at home and watched jools holland's wonderful show with his ecletic mix of music. You are right it is a time to reflect on the last year and the people you know who have gone, old friendships that have moved on and then welcome with an open heart filled with hope that 2012 will be full of laughter, good health and fun. Don't forget the international rugby season will be starting and our man Gordon D'arcy will be lining out for Ireland again looking gorgeous and doing us proud...keep ur blog updated I love reading it.

No fireworks? There's always an alarming amount of fireworks on New Year's in the Philippines, but I guess Ireland has a pretty gold glow.

Today is "Groundhog Day" in North America - the day when that furry underground creature emerges and if he sees his shadow, we have to endure six more weeks of winter. By a 2-1 decision, it looks like an early spring according to the groundhogs. We hope the new year has continued as well as it began, and look forward to hearing how things are unfolding in your life in your adopted homeland.
