A Day of Remembrance

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing. Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

  2. Thanks for posting those videos. It makes me realize there is more to this day than just picnics.

  3. It's going to seem odd, someone commenting on a post from so long ago... but here goes! So I discovered your blog about three or so years ago, at the time I was having issues accepting my sexuality. I kept coming back to your blog, your posts talking about life as an openly gay man reassured me that it is okay to be gay. They got me through a lot. I kept up with your blog as the years went on. Fast forward to today, I am a freshman in college in Illinois, sitting in my dorm room bored out of my mind. I realize that I haven't ever read your original posts. So of course I decide to waste time reading them instead of studying (obviously the better choice). I come across this post and see the poem that was turned into a song that I sang my senior year of high school. That spring break my choir went to New York City, we sang that song at multiple venues but the most memorable one was the 9/11 tribute center. Seeing the lyrics brought back a surge of memories for me. I guess I just wanted to say... thank you. Thank you for getting me through a really tough time in my life without even realizing it.
