Malahide Castle

This castle is located about 1o miles north of Dublin. It was home to the Talbit family for almost 800 years. It first belonged to a knight of Henry ll, Richard Talbot. The only time it was not in the hands of the Talbit family was from 1649-1660, when Oliver Cromwell granted it to Miles Corbet after the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland. After the end of Cromwell, Corbet was hanged and the castle was restored to the Talbots.

14 members of the Talbit family were killed on July 1, 1690, in the Battle of the Boyne. This battle still divides many Irish Catholic and Protestants to this very day.
